Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said the government will pay all travel costs for Doris Adu Gyamfi, the mother of 15-year-old Javits Frimpong, who was murdered. She will travel to the United States to attend her son’s funeral.
This came after US President Donald Trump gave her an immediate visa, following help from New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Ablakwa said he spoke with Ms. Adu Gyamfi and sent Foreign Affairs officials to help her apply for the visa. He said her pain is beyond words and that the government wants to make sure she can travel to say goodbye to her son.
In a post on X on Saturday, October 31, he said the Mahama administration will cover her full travel expenses and may also help with the cost of a respectful funeral.
The minister thanked President Trump for his help and praised Mayor Mamdani for helping arrange the visa. He also said the government will keep working with the right authorities to get justice for Javits.
“We will continue to work together to secure justice for Javits,” Ablakwa said.
